AUTOMAP and AUTOMATERIAL is a set of 3Ds Max plugins that make material creation based on bitmaps a very simple matter. AUTOMAP extracts height maps, specular maps, diffuse maps and normal maps with several extraction algorithms to provide great flexibility when generating materials based on photographs. Where specular highlights disturb the results and height maps are needed quickly for bump or displacement mapping, Automap is a great help to quickly generate these maps directly within 3ds max. AUTOMATERIAL even more simplifies this process: Just load a bitmap and your base material with bump, reflection, displacement and separate diffuse map is ready to start. Further refinement is easy, as standard and vray materials are used, familiar to users of vray, scanline and compatible renderers. Even mental ray is supported. For more flexibility and optimization, more paramaters can be adjusted inside of Automap. And if you want to convert a complete folder, the new BATCH CONVERT feature lets you drink coffee while AUTOMATERIAL does the work.

AUTOMATERIAL is a scripted material plugin that makes material creation very easy. Just load a bitmap, press GENERATE MAPS NOW and you´re ready with a base material that includes bitmaps for height, specular and diffuse layers. The extracted bitmaps are ready assigned to diffuse, reflection, bump and displacement so you´ll immediately see the result in the material preview. Now you can concentrate on tweaking your material instead of wasting time with Photoshop.
You can even convert a complete folder with bitmaps with the new BATCH CONVERT feature. In combination with Walls & Tiles or Mosaic, it´s very easy to create multiple tiles with layers this way.
AUTOMAP is a shader map that can be used with almost any material inside of 3ds max. The separate Automap Channel Select Map simplifies the creation of material, by providing selectable outputs for each layer from Automap. So, basically you can use one Automap and use the converted layers from this map in all material channels you want.
The good thing about this is that you can create your own default BASE MATERIALS and just change the source bitmap to create a different material by keeping the same settings. Material creation Automap is a very simple process.

This plugin is a real time-saver, i take a photo with a texture i think it fits for what i want to render, i put it in Automap plugin, and it does a great job (with some “imperfections” too, like the real world). Brilliant and helpful. I will make time to practice some more 🙂 I have attached a photo, the brick wall with imperfections was made using some photos of it and this plugin. Thank you for it

Without this product, I would have had to manually make bump, specular and displacement maps for 29 different brick textures. With Automap, this process was done in minutes and the results were superb. A brilliant plugin all round and a great compliment to Walls and tiles for making custom brick textures.

I used to create the material itself in Photoshop, it’s a long and useless work, the one who knows me support. Now I have this plug-in, which he does for you all the tedious work. I am glad that I have this plug-in yourself. Super!
